School of Agricultural Economics and Business Studies
Sokoine University of Agriculture
Welcome to the School of Agricultural Economics and Business Studies (SAEBS). Whether you are visiting this website as a student, parent, staff, business person, researcher, policy-maker or at whatever capacity, we are honored to have you as our partner because you are why we are here.
Our School is a dynamic unit that is growing very fast. It has grown from a small unit formerly known as “Rural Economy” with a few students to becoming one of the largest academic units at the University. This has been in response to the current changes in Tanzania’s macro-economic policy and the demand for competitive professionals in the job market and self employment. The School has close to 1000 students, a quarter of which are postgraduate students pursuing Postgraduate Diploma in Agricultural Economics, MSc. Agricultural Economic, MSc. Agricultural and Applied Economics, Master of Business Administration - MBA (Agribusiness), Master of Business Administration - Evening Programme and PhD studies. Bachelor of Business Management (BBM) and PhD (Agribusiness) are lined up for September 2017. At the moment the School has 39 staff of which 4 are supporting staff. About two-third of the academic staff are PhD holders, making it the highest concentration of professional agricultural economist not only in the country but also in the Sub-Saharan region.

With the acquisition of new premises, plans are underway to construct state of the art teaching and learning facilities including Lecture theatres, Seminar rooms, Officers, Incubators, Libraries, Language labs and recreational facilities for students and staff.

At SAEBS we nurture a culture of team work, innovation for both our staff and students to initiate impactful, tangible changes in teaching and learning. We believe these will give our students wings to venture out and explore broader horizons. Academic qualifications are indeed important but not enough to survive in today’s society, thus a truly holistic education encompassing life skills is our dream.

You can find out more about our School including contact details at this website. Please ask if you need help or advice, and remember that it is in everyone’s interests for you to succeed through us. We shall appreciate for any comments that would contribute to building a vibrant successful, ambitious and sustainable SAEBS family.
